Rooted in Experience
My name is Harini Aiyer and I'm running to be the next State Representative of Middlesex 17th. My experience as an immigrant, scientist, and entrepreneur — and surviving homelessness — has instilled a passion to rewrite policy so our hardworking neighbors will not suffer the same struggles I did.

There is abundance all around us. It takes creativity and commitment to deliver it to every level of our community.
- Increase housing supply through rezoning and repurposing built structures
- Change zoning laws that require minimum lot size to allow for more multi-family homes
- Ensure mixed-income housing within every new development
- Ensure housing stock development occurs across Massachusetts, not just in overburdened cities
- Support a tenant's bill of rights and the right of tenants to form unions
- Back rent stabilization with a sunset date while increasing housing supply
- Mandate landlords report on-time rent payments to credit agencies so renters can build credit
- Support legislation allowing tenants first pass at purchase if their home is put up for sale
- Ensure a housing-first approach for those experiencing housing insecurity
- Advocate for rent-to-own affordable housing where renters pay fair-market rent before taking on the mortgage
- Take private equity out of the housing market with severe penalties for speculation
- Work towards single-payer healthcare for all
- Remove private equity from healthcare
- Close the 'friendly physician' loophole in the Hospital Accountability Act
- Ban for-profit hospitals in the state
- Expand the Fair Share Amendment to cover early childhood education, creating universal pre-K
- Fix the Chapter 70 Inflation Gap and connect teachers' pay to inflation
- Support comprehensive Chapter 70 Foundation Formula reform
- Reduce school transportation costs through a central bidding repository for school buses
- Create combined regional contracting for out-of-district transportation
- Make it easier for districts to bring bussing back in-house with multi-district administration
- Fund full reimbursement of McKinney-Vento transportation
- Remove engine repair education requirements for school bus drivers to reduce barriers to entry
- Expand MA Repay for needed degrees in education and healthcare with location incentives
- Champion distributed renewable energy by making every house a solar farm with small battery storage forming a 'virtual power network'
- Establish mini-solar farms in every paved parking lot with on-site energy storage
- Empower public-private partnerships for upgrading grid infrastructure
- Ensure grid upgrades by utility companies don't pass costs to customers
- Mandate Data Centers draw energy from renewable sources with on-site solar and battery storage
- Phase out pollution-causing diesel generators as backup for data centers
- Create transparency around bills sent to study with specified terms, timelines, public hearings, and final reconsideration
- Ensure the public's right to know every vote and every abstention of every legislator
- Support an audit of the legislature
- Strongly prohibit new 287(g) agreements deputizing local law enforcement as ICE agents
- Call on Gov. Healey to end the Department of Correction's 287(g) agreement with ICE
- Prohibit local law enforcement from assisting ICE with facilities, equipment, or information
- Ban former ICE or Border Patrol agents from serving as police officers, teachers, or other public employees in Massachusetts
- Prevent police and court officials from inquiring about immigration status
- Increase funding for the immigrant legal-aid program and codify the fund into law
- Improve language access for immigrants of all backgrounds when interacting with the state
- Align healthcare systems and policies with the needs of seniors
- Increase availability of home-care and healthcare aides through training, free tuition, higher wages, and safer work conditions
- Provide state support for seniors to remodel homes to age in place
- Support and expand community and adult daycare centers for supervised care
- Support financial relief for fixed-income seniors through property tax relief and expanded tax relief age limits
- Support the Corporate Fair Share tax amendment increasing GILTI tax from 5% to 50% for offshore revenue
- Make publicly accessible the annual reports filed by corporations detailing sales, profits, and taxes paid
- Repeal tax breaks for companies that don't provide intended benefits and establish sunset dates with periodic review
- Support permanently decoupling the state tax code from federal changes
- Support legislation to ensure Massachusetts public schools include instruction on the histories, roles, and contributions of LGBTQ individuals in the Commonwealth
- Prevent book removal due to personal or political views in public and school libraries, require public libraries to adopt the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, and protect librarians from retaliation
- Prevent any legislation from interfering with any Trans individual's right to choose gender-affirming healthcare
- Support legislation that will provide gender-affirming care for everyone that needs it
- Oppose any legislation that will interfere with a person's expressed identity
- Support Trans athletes' right to compete in any sport of their choice, including trans youth
